ERICA LEUNG

Hi there! I’m Erica (she/her) and I am a Registered Clinical Counsellor located in Vancouver, British Columbia.

My approach in counselling is warm, genuine, and strengths-based. I believe that the key to growth and healing lies in developing a nurturing relationship with yourself. By listening to your stories, I can help unravel and process the thoughts and emotions that may emerge. Through these gentle explorations, you'll gain a deeper understanding of any unhelpful patterns and inner struggles. The process can also help uncover your inner resources and give you clarity to meet the challenges that are present or those that might arise in the future.

In my practice, I employ a culturally responsive approach that recognizes and honours the unique experiences, values, and perspectives of individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds. My work is deeply grounded in a client-centred and social justice informed framework.

I recognize that your lived experiences are distinct and shaped by your unique cultural background and identity. It is my priority to understand and honour your individual perspective, ensuring that your stories and experiences are valued and acknowledged. By taking this personalized approach, we can work collaboratively to address your specific needs and goals.

In our therapeutic sessions, I utilize an integrative approach, drawing from various therapeutic modalities. These modalities include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). By integrating these approaches, I can provide a comprehensive and tailored therapeutic experience based on your specific needs.

I am particularly dedicated to working with individuals from underrepresented communities. I understand the unique challenges and systemic barriers that individuals from these communities often face. I strive to create a safe and inclusive space where clients from all backgrounds feel welcomed and valued.

I have a strong passion for working with individuals who experience issues surrounding cultural identities and in helping them navigate and reconcile between multiple cultures to develop a sense of identity and belonging. Different family members may bridge the cultural divide at a different pace, resulting in conflicting values and expectations. I understand that such experiences can cause psychological distress, guilt, and/or shame due to the undue pressure and expectations placed on individuals by their families. This pressure often manifests in areas such as academic achievement, career success, and other aspects of life.

I strive to build upon clients' strengths and empower them to develop resilience as they navigate these challenges. Together, we will explore and unpack the life challenges you face, uncover your authentic needs and passions, and gently work on changing behaviours that may no longer serve your well-being and personal growth.

When I am not working, you can find me curled up with a book, crafting or buying way too many plants.

I look forward to accompanying you on your journey of self-discovery, empowerment, and positive change as we work together to create a fulfilling and authentic life.
