FAQs

Do I need to prepare for anything prior to our first session?

Prior to our first session, I will email you a copy of the intake/consent form. Please complete this form before your first counselling session.

To prepare for virtual counselling, you may want to check your internet connection and opt to use headphones for better quality sound. Prepare a hot cup of tea or water and make yourself comfortable. Remember, these session(s) are all about you and your comfort!

What can I expect to happen in my first session?

The initial intake session is considered an information and goal-setting gathering session. We will review the intake/consent form together and answer any questions you may have. We will also clarify your rights and confidentiality. This session will be different than subsequent counselling sessions as we will be focused on gathering information so I can learn more about you. By getting to know you, your concerns, and expectations, it can help guide us to move forward and find the best way that works for you. At the end of our session, we will work together to review objective therapy goals.

What is my cancellation policy?

I understand life happens. If you are unable to attend a session, please make sure you cancel at least 24 hours beforehand. This allows me enough time to offer that spot to another client. Otherwise, you will be charged the full session fee.

If you are running late, please contact me by email or text. I will try my best to give you the full 50 minute session, however your session will be shortened if there are other clients after you. Please note I may not be able to respond immediately if I am with another client.

What if my health benefits does not cover costs

I offer a sliding scale for those who are facing financial restraints. The sliding scale spots are currently full. Please contact me to be added to the waitlist.

What is the length of treatment?

Unfortunately, there is no easy answer. Everyone has unique circumstances. The length of treatment will depend on the factors that are driving you to seek counselling in the first place, personal preference, schedule, your desire for personal development, and so forth. We will discuss and tailor a treatment plan that fits your unique situation.

Typically, I work with clients more frequently in the beginning with the focus to better understand your needs and to strengthen our relationship. I would gradually space out our sessions depending on your progress and current needs.

Which online platforms will we be using for counselling?

All online sessions will be conducted via Jane App, a PIPEDA and HIPPA compliant platform, accessible by computer, laptop, tablet, or smartphone.

How do I know if we are the right “fit”?

You may wish to reflect on these questions:

  1. Does my counsellor provide a safe environment? Feeling safe and secure is crucial in therapy.

  2. Do I feel comfortable around them and in sharing intimate details of my life? Trust and comfort are essential in the therapeutic relationship.

  3. Does my counsellor seem approachable? It's important to have a sense that your counsellor is receptive and available for support.

  4. Is my counsellor non-judgmental and ethical? Assess whether your counsellor demonstrates acceptance, empathy, and understanding towards your experiences and perspectives along with adhering to professional guidelines and standards.

  5. Can I see myself relating to my counsellor? Building a strong therapeutic alliance involves feeling a sense of connection and being able to relate to your counsellor.

How do I book a session?

“You are exactly where you are meant to be right now. Do not compare your journey to anyone else’s; yours is a wildly different journey up an entirely different mountain. If you were meant to be higher up your mountain, you would be. There might be more you need to learn from this spot before you can keep climbing. There might be something you need to see here before you continue forward. Maybe you are simply meant to rest before the journey ahead. Regardless of where you are on your path, know that the rest of your story will unfold when it is time. Until then, enjoy your beautifully unique climb.”
